Self-consciousness Isn’t Beautiful

snakeYou’ve read the story. Satan was a snake. He hated Eve. He hated Adam too, but it was Eve he came after because she was the beautiful one.

Remember, Satan left the throne of God where he had served as an “anointed cherub who covers,” who was “‘perfect in his ways from the day [he] was created, till iniquity was found in [him].”

You were the anointed cherub who covers; I established you; You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked back and forth in the midst of fiery stones. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created, till iniquity was found in you. Ezekiel 28:14, 15

He left God’s side because he was jealous of God’s splendor.

Ezekiel 28:17 says “[Satan’s] heart was lifted up because of [his] beauty; [he] corrupted [his] wisdom for the sake of splendor.” he wanted to be above God, and so God “cast [him] down to the ground.”

Satan is not an ugly red creature with horns. He is a beautiful, clever, deceitful enemy of God … and of God’s people the ones made in His image. He is your enemy.

…He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. John 8:44

This enemy is known as the “father of lies.” He can take a little bit of truth and twist it up with deceit and make things so confusing. That is what he did to Eve. The temptation he fed to her was not a delicious apple, it was the question, “Do you know who you are?” He was intentionally feeding her a lie (or a twisted-Truth) that she was not who God said she was, that God was holding out on her.

Eve had been the epitome of Confident Beauty, but her enemy gave her a supreme makeover-without the capitals, because this change was not a good one. This confidence conflict caused her to doubt her value and made her start focusing on herself.  She became self–conscious!

What comes to mind when I ask you the question, “Do you know who you are?”

Does your answer come from what is in the mirror, or is there any twisted-Truths that has made you feel like God is holding out on you?
