Don’t you just admire disciplined women, who guard their schedules and take care of themselves without neglecting their responsibilities? Their home is in order, their finances are planned. They workout, rest well, eat right and take time to play.
And they don’t feel guilty about it.
Who do you know that meets that description? There’s a good chance that person is a Classic or a Gamine–or any style of beauty who is committed to self-improvement.
Self-discipline does not come easily.
Although it looks different to each of us, we all want our lives to be in order. Yet few of us actually get there. According to my own observations, it seems that some personalities struggle with this more than others.
By nature the Classic and the Gamine are simply more organized and task oriented. Some of us admire self-discipline; these girls desire it. This is why they often attain it quicker than the rest of us.
Truth be told, in the end, we each do what we really want in life. It’s just that when we don’t really know what we want, our desire to look good dominates. Looking good as a mom, for example, may be doing something for our kids that they should do for themselves. We must consider our deeper desires or we may “look good” in many areas that we are actually in desperate need of self-discipline. For example:
C: The Classic may desire order and organization, but in her pursuit to control too much, chaos may better describe her life until she finds herself.
N: The Natural may desire comfort and peace, but unless she finds the strength to be uncomfortable and confrontational when necessary, her life may look like a mess.
D: The Dramatic may desire friends and fun, but unless she is willing to be vulnerable and giving, she may find that she looks quite popular but is very lonely.
I: The Ingénue may desire a calm and quiet life, but unless she begins to care for herself like she does for others she may find that selfish people will drain the life out of her.
R: The Romantic may desire world peace and a happy family but unless she is able to have as much grace for herself as she does for others, she may find that her mood will always control her environment.
G: The Gamine may desire success and equality and her strong drive may even attain it, but it may also be the very thing that hinders her relationships and makes others feel like she is unfair.

Our strengths and desires have the potential to take over our lives and become our greatest weaknesses if we do not decide to gain self-control. While each personality handles this differently, we can learn a lot from each other. Not all of us are task-oriented, but all of us need to accomplish tasks every day, so we would be wise to learn from women who are. Not every woman is people-oriented, but all of us need to deal with people every day, so we would be wise to try to understand each other.
Self-discipline is beautiful
When we are young, we accept our personal strengths and weaknesses as “it’s the way I am” but as we mature, we find the strength to look at our faults and say, “others figured this out, I can too!” There is nothing more beautiful than a humble, teachable heart.
If you desire to get more of your life in order this year, then I encourage you to learn from those who don’t just look good, but actually have the courage to look at themselves in order to change their weaker ways and strengthen their gifts.
Each of us has something to offer the world and our hearts’ desires are a big indication as to what that is. Next week we will unveil the powerful personality of the Classic Beauty.
