The Overlooked Solution for Acne

When acne blows up, does you confidence deflate?

Google is betting on it, which is why ads for suicide prevention are often linked to your search on this common skin condition.

Acne affects about 50 million Americans a year.

Obnoxious blemishes have a way of rearing their ugly head at crucial times in life–not only in adolescence! Consider that important event in your life when you woke up to a big zit between your eyes. Why is it  the photo-op days when they suddenly appear to taunt us?

Stress causes acne

  • Emotional stress can cause the oil glands to be more active.
  • Physical stress (including hormones, diets, circumstances and genetics) are major contributors to break outs.

Blemishes happen

Pimples don’t care how old you are or how special your day is. If for any reason (see this article on  92 reasons)  the sebaceous glands in your skin becomes clogged, infected or inflamed, ta blemish can irrupt.

There are certainly times when you may want professional help in finding the cause and treating the problem, but before booking your appointment with a dermatologist, you may be wise to start with the basics.

Products cause acne

It’s a no-brainer for anyone who struggle with acne, that products clog pores. It is only logical to make sure that your skin care and cosmetics are noncomedogenic, which are really easy to find.

Hair products, on the other hand, are designed to condition cuticles, not pores. Very often the products you use in the shower are the culprit to the crisis. This doesn’t mean you cannot use them, however.

Routines cause acne

In my opinion, the most overlooked cause of acne is your morning routine. Consider this:

  • Your hair conditioner should soak awhile in order to penetrate the hair and do its work. Therefore, you rinse it out just before stepping out of the shower, allowing it to run down your back and face clogging the skin you just washed. I suggest you lather up  after rinsing out your conditioner, that way all residue is off of your skin and only on your hair.
  • You took the time to do your hair and want it to stay. It needs a finishing spray, which you apply after doing your makeup, but the sticky, pore-blocking mist doesn’t restrict itself to landing only on your lovely locks. I suggest you finish your hair before washing and making up your face and décolletage.

Start with the logical

Changing your morning routine may seem like an overly simplified solution to fix a difficult skin problem, but we should be careful not to overlook the simple things that create complex problems. Acne, like so many Confidence Conflicts, can flair up instantaneously. But when we are logical and intentional about taking care of our personal needs we have far more control over preventing the problem.

If you are struggling with acne or any other kind of Image Issue I encourage you to consider cause and then get back to the basics. It takes far less time and effort to prevent a problem than it does to clear it up.
