The Power of Beauty

This is school vacation week in New England. Many families are getting away for a time of refreshing and renewal. A break from the bitter cold and brutal winds can give us strength to continue to endure our harsh winters.

It’s not a bad idea to get a break from a mild winter like this one, either.

Vacations are refreshing, healing, comforting, why? Typically, it’s not just the break in routine that gives strength to the soul. Often it is the beauty that we surround ourselves with when we get away.

Snow laden ski slopes.

Palm trees swaying in the gentle breeze.

Children laughing on the playgrounds.

Think of the things that fill your hearts with joy. Are they beautiful?

Beauty is Powerful.

Consider how compelling it is to watch a beautiful performer on Broadway, or an athlete in the Olympics.

Sometimes it just takes watching a movie – or America’s Got Talent- from your living room coach to make you want to get up and do great things!

Because beauty is inspiring.

So is strength.

When strength and beauty work together, it is AWESOME! But that’s a blog for another day…

I’ve been facing a bit of a difficult season of life (see past blogs) and am in need of the break I speak of. Although I cannot take the time away, I thought I would begin to get back to writing about beauty again. Perhaps these next few blogs will be an inspiration to those of you who are also enduring a winter season. Let’s inspire each other! Tell me, what kind of beauty takes your breath away?

Holy Hug

I’ll never forget the snow fall that literally made me breathe hard.

I was walking out of Walmart, when suddenly my dark jacket was covered with tiny snowflakes that were each perfectly shaped and completely different than all the others. I never witnessed such perfect snow crystals ever before or since. Snow that looks like insulation fluff is beautiful but something about the ones that looked as if God had personally cut them out with His won hands blessed me beyond words.

I call those moments Holy Hugs.

Because beauty also makes you feel loved.
