What is Your Purchasing Theme?

shoesI love dark chocolate. If my secret stock of it ever starts getting scarce, I hit the market–immediately, before I run out and have a crisis. The funny thing is, I never lack chocolate because I buy it all the time and seldom allow myself the indulgence of eating it.

You may roll your eyes at my “skinny-girl-problem” and accuse me of having an eating disorder, but I can tell you that I am not alone. Most women have something that they feel they must have but don’t allow themselves to enjoy (or at least really wish they could have but don’t allow themselves to buy). In fact, I see evidence of this issue all the time when I enter a client’s wardrobe.

Every closet has a theme, which is a good indicator of which style of beauty that person is. It could be:

      • High quality clothing (Classics)
      • Comfortable clothing (Naturals)
      • Accessories (Dramatics)
      • Uncertainty / many themes (Ingénues)
      • Shoes (Romantics)
      • Black/ lack of color (Gamines)

I cannot tell you how many conversations I have had with women who have been excited by the idea that perhaps their purchasing theme represents their personal style (or Img.ID) and have been liberated by allowing themselves to BE who they desire to be and wear what they are attracted to.

It’s happened to me, too. I had plenty of accessories but seldom pulled them out because I felt that wearing them was showy or phony. Once I learned my Img.ID I felt like I had permission to BE myself, and wearing all the belts and bling that made me look and feel more authentic. Kind of ironic, don’t you think?

Perhaps there is something you are drawn to but don’t feel free to enjoy. Is there a certain theme in your closet? If you can relate to this, I’d love to hear from you. I want to encourage you to try wearing those [shoes] you loved in the store; who needs a special occasion? Make tomorrow special–and then go eat some chocolate!
