Why I Love Platform University

“Will you remember me when you’re famous?”

This question was a common response of my peers when the publication of my book, Confident Beauty, was announced. With each snide remark, I found my heart challenged. I respect the fact that one person’s success can create Confidence Conflicts for others, but I wasn’t prepared for the emotional battle that came with having my own dream come true.

Is promoting my work prideful?

fish-428706_640I love writing, because I’ve found that sharing my hurts and hangups helps others face their’s. But honestly, all the posting and promoting is way out of my comfort zone.  What may look like “fame” to some, feels more like “shame” to me. In fact, I feel like a small fish in a sea of raging waters.

As professionals, we all need to make a conscious effort to master our skills if we want to be successful. Success builds our confidence, right? I’m confident as an image- and life-coach. I’m even confident as a speaker, but when it comes to marketing my message, well, not so much. My niche is a rather personal issue and honestly, as much as I appreciate all the private affirmations that I do get, the lack of response on my public platform is a bit humbling.

I can’t help but wonder if I have I spent all this time and effort trying to touch the heart of women just to make my own heart vulnerable on the world wide web?

Sometimes we need help building confidence.

As a professional, I help girls and women who HATE, HIDE or get HUNG UP on their appearance by guiding them through all the pressures and chaos of the beauty industry. I help them find their authentic self (their Img.ID) and advise them on accentuating their true style so that they can get over self-consciousness and focus on others. I can only do this because I’ve experienced the Beauty Battle myself.

As a new author, I find myself facing new Confidence Conflicts; this time not with my individual style, but with my public image:

  • I HATE marketing myself.
  • I want to HIDE my vulnerabilities.
  • Then I figure something out– like blogging–and I get HUNG UP on trying to do it well, desperate to look good for my publisher, my “tribe” and you.

Confidence isn’t a constant, and it’s presence in one area of our lives doesn’t make it present in every area.

I need help.

That’s why I love Platform University. As a former Chairman and CEO of Thomas Nelson Publishers, Michael Hyatt is a virtual mentor, a “big fish” so to speak, who’s wisdom and experience empowers little fish like me with the tools, techniques and validation we need to navigate the sea of raging waters on the world wide web. My association with PU is helping me to BE who I need to be in order to help others BE who they are designed to be. I’m not after fame, I do this for God’s glory, not my own, but if one day I do have a large platform then, yes, I will remember all my friends, because my readers are my reason and I have help keeping it all in proper perspective. Thank you Michael Hyatt!

If you, too, have a  message to get out in the noisy world, or if your Confidence Conflicts relate to building a platform, I highly recommend you check out  the makeover promotion Michael is doing at  https://platformuniversity.com/ Personally, I feel it is well worth the investment.
