Confident Classic Kids

Children are like sponges

Kids soak up anything they can lean because  knowledge is an innate human desire. For some, however, learning is more than a desire.

Typically, the Classic Clothing Personality is very intellectual and passionate about education. Many kids love their teachers and want to pursue a teaching career, but if your child talks about one day being the teacher of teachers–or administrator, he or she may have a Classic Image Identity.

Classics are analytical kids, who likes things organized.

“Look mommy, a pattern!”

My daughter is a Dramatic. When she was a little girl she got so excited about patterns! Tori loved to work things together and make them look pretty. Your daughter may love patterns too, but her motive may be to make things organized. As we study our children, we would be wise to look deeper than their words or actions. Let’s look at their heart.

The reason your child likes to read (her heart) is a big indicator of his or her Img.ID:

C: to learn or figure out a mystery
N: to relax and play / pretend
D: to get lost in a dramatic story
I: to escape, imagine and fantasize
R: to feel good, find comfort, enjoy a story
G: to learn and figure out how to fix something

I liken the Classic  to the rose. Girls with this clothing personality (or Image Identity/Img.ID) have a Refined Beauty. They stand alone with strength and dignity and tend to keep a guard about themselves. As they mature, they open up (like the flower) and share their wisdom and strength, making great mentors and advisors.

Beauty isn’t as important to boys as it is too girls. Even boys who like fashion would typically prefer looking strong over looking good, so I use a tree to represent each of the male clothing personalities.

Boys who are the Classic style are also independent and strong. The “Refined Attraction” is like a holly tree, which is also strong, dignified and a bit guarded. Like the rose, the Holly Tree shares an inviting aroma while commanding a certain respect.

Classics are average height and have well-balanced features.

There is a reason why each Img.ID has a motto for What2Wear. It’s a bit of a catch 22: Your clothing personality is determined by what you look like, your best look is determined by your clothing personality.  Classics have clean, balanced lines in their physique,  they typically like things to be organized (but are sometimes scattered by their difficulty making decisions), and they look  best when their outfit is clean cut, balanced and proper.

I had so much fun working with my illustrator, E. Trent Thomson, to create our new book, Know Who You Are–for Kids! This children’s story tells of how Katy Finds the Confidence to Be Her True Self after struggling with comparison.  Each of Katy’s friends are a different clothing personality. As we created them, Trent would ask me for an example of that style. For most of characters, I had a picture to show him, but there were times when he was working faster than I could get a picture or permission from my model. This was the case with the Classic girl, Jane.

Ben has a strong, square jawline and Jane’s facial features are well balanced and  proportionate. Ben and Jane are each Classics.

One of my favorite memories of creating the book, was of Jane. By then, Trent had the styles pretty much figured out. “Ok, this one should have oval face, simple, clean features: not too full, not too thin, everything balanced and even, right?” Without an example to follow, he nailed it… except the hair.

“We have to change her hair. Classics are serious kids.  Jane would not be confident if her mom did her hair in bouncy piggy-tails.”

Sometimes it’s the simplest of things that make our kids confident, but how will we know if we don’t even recognize that there are six different styles of beauty / attraction and many combinations of them? (Anyone may be two-or rarely three-styles.) Would you join me in telling moms, dads and educators about the various styles so that  more kids will find the confidence to be his/her true self, like Katy? Please share this any way you can.
